Title 1st Middlesex (Metropolitan) Light Horse officer's undress sabretache badge
Nationality British
Period c 1861-66
Price £100.00

Mr D J Knight has kindly enlightened me about this badge (which might also be an other ranks pouch badge, though I think it is too big)! The company was raised in 1861 and disbanded in 1866. The dress version has a similar design in embroidery. This badge measures 4 1/8 x 3 1/2 inches.

Its condition is almost 'as struck', ie excellent. Two of the securing prongs at the reverse are missing. It would appear to be made of gilding metal with an electro-gilt wash to the front. There are no traces of splash-over, as found with fire gilding, so I presume it is the later method.

If you want to comment on this item—re quality, age, etc—please email me.

...acquiring this bayonet has completely changed my way of thinking on collecting bayonets. I have become extremely fond of the bayonet... Thanking you once again for the very professional way in which you handled the money [going to the wrong account] problem.

The bayonet arrived safe and sound this morning. It is absolutely magnificent. I am thrilled to bits with it. Thanks for all the interest you have shown.

My very best wishes, and thank you, very sincerely, once again.
