Title 2nd Queen's Dragoons broadsword
Nationality Spanish
Period c 1743-50
Sold

The blade (36.5 inches) was made by Abraham Stamm in Solingen in the mid-18th century. The hilt and scabbard are later and date from the Napoleonic wars. The royal Portuguese arms were engraved on the hilt, probably in 1816 when Ferdinand VII married a Portuguese princess. The grip may be of rhino horn.

In addition to the German inscription, there is a Spanish religious insription on the blade.

Having received the beautiful medal that has been the subject of many recent phone calls, I am absolutely delighted with it. More importantly, the research you provided into the military backgrounds of all those involved made it all the more poignant. Thank you for your highly professional and friendly help and advice throughout the transaction.
