belt buckles

Here is a selection of militaria from this category:

[ Show all ]
militaria item Kriegsmarine belt buckle
- German
This is the mid-war version, which replaced the gilt aluminium / gilt steel / brass type of the pre-war and early war years. It is virtually mint, with a little rust at the goal post catch on the reverse. Otherwise there is hardly any paint missing from the piece, one of the best examples I have come across. There is no maker mark.

militaria item SS man's belt, buckle by Overhoff & Co
- German
This is the walking out belt in patent leather, which officially the SS were not allowed to wear. Patent leather belts of this type were worn throughout the Wehrmacht for walking out occasions, ie with a girlfriend, etc. The buckle is nicely marked 'O&C ges.gesch.' (for Overhoff & Co).

militaria item Model 1895 Bavarian waist belt clasp, other ranks
- German
This has got its original leather tag, designed to keep the ammunition pouch in place on the belt, and is stamped 'OEL' to the reverse, which may stand for 'Offenberg - Engels & Co, Ludenscheid'. The size of the lettering (larger than normal) may indicate post-war ownership by this factory for use on a display board or as a sample.

militaria item Luftwaffe belt with buckle, 2nd pattern
- German
This is the standard Luftwaffe combat belt of the middle years of WW2. Prior to the outbreak of war, these were normally in brown leather, but by 1940 the colour had changed to black. The buckle is date stamped 1938, maker marked 'F.R.' and the leather tag is stamped 'Franz Reschauer // Oberstein' around 1938. The reverse has unit markings.

militaria item Kriegsmarine dirk belt buckle
- German
A good example of a fairly rare buckle of gilt aluminium construction. This is the buckle for the dirk, not the sword, belt, being approximately half the size of the latter. As buckles go, it's the rarer of the two for the sea-going navy.
