Title KuK dress bayonet, 1895 pattern Mannlicher
Nationality Austrian
Period c 1914-38
Price £140.00
(This item is subject to special postage, click here for more information.)

This is the standard dress bayonet of WW1 and later for the KuK/Honved armies of Austro-Hungary. Worn initially by NCOs (and, in WW1, by officers in preference to a sword) in the last two decades of the old Franz Joseph Empire, it continued in use under the republic. I have a photo of my dad wearing one as a Heimwehr officer under Dolfuss.

The maker's mark, V&N (a Hungarian firm), is stamped on the frog stud, along with the double eagle of the empire.

There is a loss of some 10/15% EPNS finish throughout and it is priced accordingly. The grips would appear to be oak, suggesting WW1 production. It would have been worn on a black leather frog.

I have in the last six months inherited my late father Alan Swain's police memorabilia collection along with much paperwork receipts etc. I would like to pass on to you my thanks for such good dealership with my father going back to the late 80s and well into the 1990s.

I am wholly delighted with the shako plate. [It] is a wee cracker. It is a real pleasure to have something combining both condition and quality in equal parts, and I simply could not be more pleased.
