Iron stirrup - German
This is a good example of an early stirrup from the mid-16th century. It was found on the outskirts of Edinburgh some years ago and is, in all probability, of either German or perhaps Austrian origin. The motifs are largely of the shell variety, typical of this period on ironwork like sword hilts and other horse furniture.

Bronze stirrup - British
This military stirrup (military because of its weight and the shell device, which helped protect the stirrup from being cut away by a sword blow) is the type found all over Europe at this period, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and call it British because it was found in England (in a barn).
