Gladstone commemorative medal, 1894 - British
This medal commemorates the retirement of William Gladstone from the House of Commons in 1894. He had been Prime Minister four times and, along with Disraeli, he created the modern Conservative party. There is a 50-line inscription on the reverse, listing the MPs of 1894. It is by Messrs L.C. Lauer and it was struck by J. Rochelle Thomas.

Woolwich & Sandhurst Athletics medal - British
This die-struck bronze medal (diameter 50mm) is dated 4 May 1883 and is the joint athletics medal for Woolwich and Sandhurst Military Academies. Woolwich was the academy for the Royal Artillery and Sandhurst for the infantry and cavalry.

Crimea medal miniature (Quartermaster J Swaine) - British
This fine little miniature medal, complete with its original silk ribbon, is beautifully named on the edge 'J.SWAINE.QAr.Mr.2D.BATTn. THE.RL.REGt.' (the 1st Royal Regiment of Foot, the Royal Scots).

National Rifle Association bronze medal, cased - British
Embossed 'RECRUIT' on the reverse under NRA, these medals, I suspect, were given to new recruits in the volunteer rifle regiments raised in the 1860s on completion of a musketry course.

Bristol Humane Society medal - British
This is a rare variant of the Royal Humane Society medal for successfully saving life, issued between 1774 and 1867. It would seem that the Bristol variant was instituted in 1807, according to the date on the exergue. The sculptor signs himself 'T.H.' for T. Halliday. It is, sadly, uninscribed, as it would have left the Mint.

Medal of Honour, Provincial Exhibition, NWP (India) - British Empire
Marked on the obverse: 'MEDAL OF HONOR 1867' with 'PROVINCIAL EXHIBITION N.W.P.' [for Province] and 'THE HONBLE E. DRUMMOND, LT.GR.' [for Governor]. It is neatly engraved around the rim: 'SUPDT. ROORKEE WORKSHOPS', probably for the railway workshops in the town of Roorkee in Northern India.

Pair of boxing medals - British
Generic silver medals (the pink reflection is down to bad lighting!), copiously engraved with the details of the awards (see below). It is rare to find 19th-century boxing medals.
