militaria item Railway Police collar patch
- German
This is for the Bahnschutzpolizei ORs tunic. The BSP came under Reichsbahn control for their regular service duties. For specialist service, eg concentration camp deliveries, they were under Himmler's hand.

militaria item SA ORs shoulder straps, district Niederrhein
- German
These first pattern straps were worn on the SA brown blouse from 1933-38 singly on the right shoulder, changing over to use on both shoulders somewhere between 1938-39, continuing thus to 1945. They were worn up to the rank of Obertruppfuehrer. The Niederrhein unit wore pebbled gilt buttons.

militaria item Pair of ORs Schupo Litzen (collar patches), 1936 model
- German
These are 'Ausgehanzug', walking out dress examples, of the new pattern Schutzpolizei uniform introduced in 1936. This introduction occurred as a result of the gradual transfer of police power from the idividual Lander to central control, starting in 1934 and finishing in 1936 with Himmler in command of all police units.

militaria item NSKK driver's sleeve insignia, 1st pattern
- German
The NSKK were the motorised units of the SA, using trucks, motorcycles and sidecar motorcycles. They were used principally in the run-up to the war as a miiltary driving school to prepare young men for service with the forces. They wer also used in the pre-war period to move SA units rapidly around Germany when the Reds needed discomforting!

militaria item Medical officer's epaulettes, field service
- German
These epaulettes, with the dark blue piping and the gilt finish aesculapius of the Medical Corps, are distinguished as field epaulettes by being finished in dulled aluminium bullion, as opposed to the bright finish of the parade examples. The rank is that of 2nd Lieutenant (viz no pips).

militaria item Kriegsmarine breast eagle, 1st pattern
- German
This eagle was introduced in the mid-1930s when the new navy uniforms came into force. These were principally worn on the reefer jacket and the white summer tunic. All navy personnel would have worn them, officers wearing them in a gold bullion finish, while ORs wore them in a cotton/wool mix (as this one) and later in BeVo (rayon).

militaria item Schutzpolizei NCO collar patch
- German
This is an ex-stores example of the 'Ausgehanzug' variety, worn by senior NCOs, essentially on the pre-war parade uniform. The Schupo were the national police force of Germany, whose members later mutated partly into the SS Police division and partly into Schupo battalions working on the Eastern Front.

militaria item Arbeitsdienst administration officer's collar patch
- German
These were worn by personnel of the RAD (Reichsarbeitsdienst), which was the organisation that all young men had to serve in prior to entring the Wehrmacht. It gave them basic military skills and got them fit for service. The RAD were used for major construction projects in Germany before the war (eg buildling autobahns and bridges).

militaria item Schutzpolizei epaulette for Hauptwachtmeister
- German
Because of its bright nature, I strongly suspect that this originally came from a peace time parade uniform and would have been stitched into the shoulder. The two pips and the aluminium braid bar at the base of the epaulette give the rank and the indication of four years' service.

militaria item Army major's epaulettes, Justice Administration Department
- German
These were distinguished from regular service pairs by having an extra layer of dark green cloth under the waffenfarbe. In this case, the latter is for the Justice section of the administration department. These tended to survive better, and in greater numbers, than the field variety.
