Title Albini-Braendlin socket bayonet, 1841/67 conversion
Nationality Belgian
Period c 1867
Sold

I have been informed (thanks to Russ Thomas) that this is an Albini-Braendlin socket bayonet, 1841/67 conversion. This conversion occurred when the earlier 1841 muzzle loader became a breech loader via a form of trapdoor breech conversion, similar to the Springfield. The sight bridge is somewhat off centre on these conversions.

There is a mark, which is indecipherable.

The blade has an even plum-brown finish. The socket has a slightly rougher patination, indicating the nature of the metal (more iron than steel). The internal muzzle ring diameter is 18mm and the blade length is 46cm, with the overall length 52.5cm.

If you want to comment on this item—re quality, age, etc—please email me.

My order arrived this morning, thanks for the prompt delivery.

Two excellent original pieces, I must say.

Buckle is in minty condition retaining so much detail esp plummage on eagle's neck and chest, like to see those 'creases' on the legs also... a beautiful example of an early O&C buckle.

Belt is very interesting, rather thin, CROUPON stamped and also behind the tongue...maybe Allegmeine but no SS markings as you state. Beautiful piece none the less.

Thanks for a speedy transaction Chris, I am very happy with my purchase :)
