The Duchy of Baden was one of the minor German states to survive intact the Vienna Conference of 1814 and on into the second Reich under Wilhelm II. This is the last pattern plate for the Baden pickelhaube, worn throughout WW1. This is a die-struck plate with lead soldered fittings on the reverse. It has a slightly crumpled look and there is one serious split at the base of the shield running across the title. It has perhaps 20% of its original gilt finish left on the face of the plate and the back is patinated with age. There is a little verdigris on the highlights of the right wing of the griffin. |
