These bayonet/side arm knots (troddeln) were introduced into the Prussian Army in 1808. The variant colours indicate the particular battalion and company to which the wearer belonged. They continued to be worn (normally wrapped round the frog) in the Weimar era and then in the Third Reich when the loose knot assumed a closed, barrel shaped form.

This example has suffered somewhat, the strap having been repaired near the slider, and the colours have run a little in some cleaning process. However, I can only stress the low survival rate of these Imperial souvenirs, as against the Third Reich types which are found with much greater frequency.

Today I received your flag. It's very nice and looks genuine to me. Beautifull crisp colors! It looks barely used. It's a nice addition to my ww2 collection. I would even say, one of my top pieces.

Thanks for your excellent service and top communication!

I will check your site more often to see if you have more nice pieces.

Picked up the dirk this morning and actually waited until I got back home before unwrapping the package. It really exceeded my expectations...whilst the photos were good, to see and feel it in three dimensions was very exciting. A beatutful piece Chris, and worth the wait.
