Title Fighting knife
Nationality German
Period 1930s

This, possibly a prototype Hitler Youth knife design, was the type of knife carried by both Red and Brown elements in the prolififc street fighting of the latter years of the Weimar Republic and would have been a private purchase number from one of the Solingen firms. I can't recall having seen this pattern hilt before except on an HJ knife.

It has a stained beech wood grip and nickel silver mounts, which, on the pommel at least, have suffered a certain amount of wear. The blade also has an EPNS finish, which is in excellent shape as is the leather work, which is definitely not WW1 vintage.

Sword arrived today. Fabulous. This is an excellent example of a fighting sword of its period, and a real gem. The 1828 Pattern is such a gorgeous sword, and this is a fine example. Even my bride is impressed and she doesn’t really get swords.
