This second model G98 bayonet has a crowned 'O' at the forte for King Otto of Bavaria, 1886-1913, and is regimentally marked for the 13th Bavarian Line, whose colonel was Franz-Joseph of Austria. There are fully matching marks on the hilt and scabbard mount. The blade is stamped 'C.G. HAENEL', a maker from Suhl in Saxony. The scabbard has shrunk somewhat, leaving the blade some .5 inch proud of the throat. All inspection marks are clearly visible on all metal parts of the weapon. The blade has had light surface rust at some point, which has been largely polished off; it remains nice and straight, however. |
