These were worn from Waterloo onwards on staff officers' cocked hats and, indeed, on most cocked hats worn by the military throughout the 19th century. From memory, the only man to still wear one of these is the senior medical officer of the Household Cavalry on parade. It is white over red swan's feathers. It is in excellent shape for its age and the tin, though a little crumpled in parts, is still in reasonable shape with considerable scarring to the paintwork. |
