The Irish Guards were formed as a result of the gallantry of the Irish troops in the Boer War, numbering fourth in the line after the Grenadier, Coldstream and Scots Guards. The Welsh Guards were formed in 1915. This buckle is the current issue buckle, maker marked W.P.W. on the reverse with a broad arrow. It is traditionally worn on the white buff belt with the scarlet tunic. The buckle is in virtually factory issue condition. It is made of solid brass and whatever tarnish there is is from storage. |
