The coat of arms of the Cooks Livery Company is on the obverse, with the date 1482 below, while on the reverse there is: 'Perry Toulson Gardner // ADMITTED ON THE LIVERY // 3rd DECEMBER 1919. // AND ON THE COURT // 17th JULY 1929'. On the silver-gilt bar on the ribbon, it is marked 'MASTER 1938'. The medal itself is struck in silver gilt. Perry Toulson Gardner was, therefore, Master of the Company in 1938 and obviously a chef of some distinction to have achieved this rank, having been accepted to the Company in 1919. It is mounted on its original red and white silk ribbon and the metalwork is in AVF condition. There are no hallmarks, as these medals would have been privately purchased by the guilds direct from the makers and, therefore, no need for any hallmarking. |
