Title Mauser bayonet, short model 1889
Nationality Belgian
Period c 1889-1914
Sold
(This item is subject to special postage, click here for more information.)

This model, with a 25 cm blade, was manufactured from 1889-1915. It has nice fruitwood grips and is numbered T2161 on both cross guard and frog stud. There is a maker's stamp 'HF' under a crown, perhaps for Herstal Fabrique?

The scabbard has 85% original blue finish with some patches of old pitting and a few speckles of surface rust. There is also some surface pitting around the press stud, mostly now cleaned off.

Sword arrived today. Fabulous. This is an excellent example of a fighting sword of its period, and a real gem. The 1828 Pattern is such a gorgeous sword, and this is a fine example. Even my bride is impressed and she doesn’t really get swords.

Yes, arrived safe and sound, very nice, and very interesting. Have a couple of friends in the States slavering over the pictures, one of them loves searching old lists, etc. If I can tie it down more definitely will let you know.
