Title Miniature bronze model of Armstrong gun barrel
Nationality British
Period c 1870
Sold

This model barrel is 8.5cm long and of approximately .177 calibre. Armstrong barrels were principally made for coastal batteries and men o' war from about 1860-85. Famously the CSS Alabama, a Confederate blockade runner in the US Civil War, was equipped with these.

This is a working barrel, fully bored out with a touch hole. The bore inside is nice and clean and it should, therefore, shoot nicely, should anyone wish to use it. It is lightly patinated throughout.

Hanger arrived safe and sound 11.30ish today. Very pleased, it's as expected. Your excellent pics make all the difference in terms of confident buying over the net. As a matter of interest, the frog, which as you said is very a/f, is, as you thought, 'spot on'. On closer inspection it is a mk.1 Naval Frog, designated 'for cutlasses'. Date seems around 1860ish give or take.

By the way, I think your site is very user friendly. Seems to work much better than many and up to date, a rarity!!!
