Title MK5/6 Webley revolver holster, Surrey Yeomanry marked
Nationality British
Period 1915-18
Price £120.00

This is marked 'SRY' on the reverse for 'Surrey Yeomanry', with the maker's name 'Thomasson & Co.' stamped on the leather retaining strap. There is a broad arrow stamp, together with a faint date stamp (15?) to the inside. Both the MK 5 and 6 pistols would have fitted this.

This was the classic issue holster for NCOs/ORs throughout the Great War and, as such, is much harder to find than the flap top officer private purchase variety. Unit marked examples are scarcer still. The Surrey Yeomanry seved on the Western Front, in Egypt, as trench police in Galipoli, in Macedonia and finally in the Caucasus at Tiflis.

The general condition of the leatherwork and stitching is excellent for the age of the piece, except at the junction of the retaining strap, where the stitching is a little loose with age. The 'D' rings are of iron with an EPNS finish.

My order arrived this morning, thanks for the prompt delivery.

Two excellent original pieces, I must say.

Buckle is in minty condition retaining so much detail esp plummage on eagle's neck and chest, like to see those 'creases' on the legs also... a beautiful example of an early O&C buckle.

Belt is very interesting, rather thin, CROUPON stamped and also behind the tongue...maybe Allegmeine but no SS markings as you state. Beautiful piece none the less.

Thanks for a speedy transaction Chris, I am very happy with my purchase :)
