This fine box was almost certainly built for a large calibre pepperbox, or possibly a pair of double-barrelled overcoat pistols. At some point in its history, it was turned into a cigar box with the addition of a cedarwood lining. It even has the remains of the original blue baize-type covering to the base, typical of pistol boxes of this era. The dimensions are: internal depth near 8cm, internal width just over 15cm, internal length 24.5cm; external depth 8.5cm, external width just over 16cm, external length 27.5cm. |
