This is a variant of the standard gunners badge from the early 20th century, with a moving wheel instead of a fixed wheel on the gun. This badge was worn by all field, garrison and horse artillery units throughout WW1 and 2. It has the battle honour Ubique (Latin for everywhere), as wherever the British Army went, these guys were sure to be found. It is almost certainly a pre-1945 design, witness the brazing joining the slider to the back of the crown. This is a die-struck gilding metal badge of two-piece construction, with a moving wheel riveted to the centre of the design. The slider is brass and brazed to the back of the crown. There is a degree of distortion to the badge through use and minor abuse and the highlights are a little worn, but, as a representative moving wheel badge, it is a fair example. |
