Title Royal Navy officer's sword, George V
Nationality British
Period c 1914
Sold

A fine example with 98% original gilt intact. The blade has nearly 100% factory finish with a few minor spots of surface rust. The original scabbard leather is in excellent shape, complete with a slightly scruffy bullion sword knot and oil skin bag with chamois leather lining (buckles a/f).

The blade is proof marked for Thurkle in a small nickel inset within the Star of David at the base of the blade. Thurkle was a London cutler and it is probable that he made this blade for the retail tailors' trade, hence no name and address in bold lettering, as one would normally expect.

I am wholly delighted with the shako plate. [It] is a wee cracker. It is a real pleasure to have something combining both condition and quality in equal parts, and I simply could not be more pleased.

Hi Chris, medals arrived safely and I am very pleased, will leave a mention for you on a military collectors forum and hopefully you may pick up some business.

Once again thank you.
