Title San Marco Brigade marine commando knife
Nationality Italian
Period c 1940

This very rare knife has a black bakelite grip with the Fasces impressed into both sides of the grip. There is also the motif 'RM' on either side of an anchor for 'Reggio Marina' (ie Italian Royal Navy). This has a 8.25 inch blade, a full inch longer than the Fascist militia combat knife on which this blade is based.

The San Marco Brigade saw extensive service in the Mediterranean theatre and in North Africa. They are still part of the Italian navy today and, I believe, are currently serving in Afghanistan.

The condition is excellent: there is perhaps 30% of the original anodised finish to the blade; the scabbard would appear to have its original paintwork.
