This piece is marked 'WAFFENFABRIK//MAUSER A.G.//OBERNDORF A.N.' at the forte, where it is also dated 1917 on the back edge. There is a nice brown frog with sadler's details punched into the leather work. This weapon was normally issued to Pioneer units in the Great War, but also to NCOs in infantry and artillery units. The blade is clean, with some service wear and traces of old pitting in places, now cleaned. The walnut grips are age and oil stained, but in reasonably good shape. The scabbard has some dents to its back and age wear to its body. |
