This medal, struck in 1808 by Kuchler to commemorate the taking of Seringapatam from Tipu Sahb on 4 May 1799, is the Calcutta Mint striking, the commoner of the two, the other being the 48mm variety struck in England. This one would have been struck for British officers serving with the East India Company army. The condition is excellent for its age. I would rate the condition as VF+. It shows the British lion defeating the tiger of Mysore (Tipu Sultan). |
