This is the classic Brit sidearm of WW1, replacing first the 1903 model with a 12" double-edged blade and then the 1907 pattern with hooked quillon, and seeing extensive service in both World Wars. This one was made by Wilkinson and is stamped accordingly at the forte. The scabbard is the final variant, faintly stamped '32' under the top chape, near the seam. There are issue dates on the blade for 1917 and 1929, the former being a little faint. The blade has been sharpened for field service and has some minor age staining. The fruitwood grips have some dark oil stains and the pommel has a light patina, now largely polished out with one small deeper corrosion patch under the locking button. Both chape and top mount have an old black paint finish - WW2? The scabbard leather is in good order but shows normal service/age wear. |
