Title Surrey Yeomanry officer's tunic button, 2nd pattern
Nationality British
Period c 1911-22
Price £10.00

This (19mm diameter) has a silver finish, and is marked 'Firmin' on the reverse. It replaced the earlier button with Lord Middleton's crest and would have been worn on dress uniform and mess kit right up to WW2, the regular Royal Artillery button replacing it on Field Service dress after 1922.

The SY was first raised in 1794, disbanded in 1848 and later raised again in 1901. It amalgamated with the Sussex Yeomanry in 1922, forming two batteries of field guns as part of a four-battery unit, the 98th (Surrey & Sussex Yeomanry) Brigade, RFA. It served with distinction in both world wars.

This is tarnished, but the silver finish is still in good shape.
