This is an early example in bronze, with a short length of original ribbon. It was the basic gallantry award for front line service and anti-partisan combat personnel and ranks under the Iron Cross, 2nd class, and some 6,500,000 were awarded.

I received the item today, you had packed it well and there were no problems with customs. Overall I was happy with it although the blade was a little bit worse than I had imagined, however thank you for your efforts.

Excellent information, Chris, you've been making a big effort! I will spell it out more closely (I'm a historian!) and don't think Bezdek can add much more.
