In 1881, this regiment became the 2nd Battalion, the Prince of Wales Leinster Regiment (Royal Canadians). Its origins are in 1761-95 as part of the British army; in 1795, they were disbanded and, from 1853-81, served as the HEIC (Hon. East India Co.) 3rd (Bombay European) Regiment, becoming in 1861 the 109th Bombay Infantry. The Prince of Wales Leinster Regiment was disbanded in 1922 on the partition of Ireland. (The 1st Battalion was the 100th.) The lugs are cast as an integral part of the badge, which is of exceptional quality. It may be an Indian bazaar casting. The condition is excellent for its age with relatively little wear and tear. |
