This pattern of bayonet was a government conversion of commercial export stock destined for South America. It has a government acceptance stamp at the forte on the back of the blade, together with the maker mark FP (for Friedrich Plucker Junior) on the base of the blade. The scabbard has got a different maker's mark. The blade has suffered somewhat at the point, but essentially is still in quite good shape. There are a couple of minor splits in the grips of the hilt, the scabbard nuts have some corrosion, there is some bruising on the pommel and the scabbard throat screw is missing, with only traces of the original field grey paintwork towards the top of the scabbard with the rest age patinated. |
