This bayonet is made entirely of steel and was produced as a war time emergency item to cope with the ever increasing demand for bayonets. It has a German army inspection stamp lightly struck at the base of the forte and approximately 60% of its original paintwork. The scabbard is marked 'WAFFENFABRIK // MAUSER A.G. // OBERNDORF a.N.' and is the earlier pattern normally associated with the wood-gripped 1905 model. It has obviously been associated for some time with the weapon, as there are saw cuts to the back of the throat. The scabbard has age patination and bruising, with some medium pitting at the back towards the throat. The blade, however, has a pronounced bend, hence the price, and the teeth are nice and sharp. |
