This is a parish truncheon from a small village in Norfolk. It bears the coat of arms current from 1801-16, the latter part of George III's reign, as well the name 'L.Cressingham' to distinguish it from Greater Cressingham nearby. These parish truncheons are quite hard to come by, not quite as rare as the Tithing or Hundred type. There is some loss (about 15-20% overall, with only about 15% on the detailed areas) to the paintwork, especially round the right hand side of the crown, but overall, considering the age of the piece, it is really in quite good shape. It is 21 and a half inches long. |
