This is the 1832 pattern model, which has been used continuously through the 19th and 20th centuries into the present. It is a Wilkinson sword, numbered 90,733, which dates it to 1967 according to Wilkinson's records. The blade is 32.75" long with the Gordon Highlander's badge and regimental title engraved to one side and ERII engraved to the other. The engraving has lost its original frosted finish, but is still reasonably sharp. There are a few stains and abrasions here and there. The scabbard is a pigskin covered field service one complete with its leather frog and nickel silvered chape. The frame is slightly squashed on the obverse side. The hilt has all its original nickel silver finish and a composition grip with its original wiring. It has its original red silk fringe and red wool liner, the latter with some minor wear on the reverse side. |
