Marked on the back of the blade 'Manufacture d'Armes Chat[ellerault] 1879'. This was the bayonet carried on their second bolt action black powder rifle through all of France's campaigns in Africa and Indo-China in the latter half of the 19th century before the introduction of the Lebel in 1886. The scabbard is slightly bent halfway down and also has a couple of small cuts. However, it has all its original blue finish. It has a superb set of walnut grips. The blade has most of its factory polish with a couple of small patches of pitting, now cleaned. |
