Title Infantry assault badge, silver
Nationality German
Period c 1939-45

This good example appears to be of silver tombak and there is no maker's mark. I say tombak, inasmuch as there is evidence of copper plating under the silver finish. However, it could still be a zinc badge overplated with copper and then finished with silver. The silver finish is original and is in good shape for its age.

The qualificatons were: 1) to have taken part in 3 or more infantry assaults; 2) in 3 or more counter attacks, or combinations of 1 and 2; 3) in 3 or more armed reconaissance operations; 4) to have been engaged in hand to hand combat in an assault; 5) to have participated on 3 separate days in the restitution of combat positions.

The condition is excellent for its age.

Thanks for selling my collection. I am very pleased with the results.

Hanger arrived safe and sound 11.30ish today. Very pleased, it's as expected. Your excellent pics make all the difference in terms of confident buying over the net. As a matter of interest, the frog, which as you said is very a/f, is, as you thought, 'spot on'. On closer inspection it is a mk.1 Naval Frog, designated 'for cutlasses'. Date seems around 1860ish give or take.

By the way, I think your site is very user friendly. Seems to work much better than many and up to date, a rarity!!!
