Title Irish Guards waist belt clasp, other ranks
Nationality British
Period c 1914
Sold

This is the standard Irish Guards other ranks belt plate, worn from their raising as a unit after the Boer War until current times. By virtue of the abrasion to the central device (common practice among Guardsmen in the early 20th century - for a better shine) and the colour of the brass, I suspect it is nearer to 1914 than later.

This buckle would have been worn on the white buff belt with the red full dress tunic and bearskin.

Its condition is excellent apart from the abrading of the central device and some service wear to the rest of the piece.

There is a broad arrow stamp on the reverse and the number 11 (possibly for 1911 as an issue date).

testimonials

Just to let you know that the spoon came this morning and I am really pleased with it.

Found the item a little on the expensive side and a bit disappointed that you were unwilling to bend a bit on the price of the Officer's Tunic Eagle (half the fun of buying, after all, is the haggling), but impressed by the speed of delivery and the quality of the item. Was well worth it in the long run...
