This is the classic Afghan assassin's knife and the smallest (roughly about one foot long) of the varieties, which varied in size up to two foot. It is the real McCoy, a souvenir from the North-West Frontier Wars in which the British were engaged at this period. This type of knife is still carried by Afghans. The best part of the piece is the horn grip which has piquet work in pewter and copper. The scabbard is certainly original, although the leather is a little on the frail side. It has a very scruffy blade, pitted along its length, which could improve substantially with careful cleaning. |
