This type of weapon would have been carried by the Arab irregulars serving with the Turkish army in the 1914-18 war. Typically the shape of hilt is found in the Balkans and also in Iraq. The grip is black cow horn with a silver coin ornament near the top and a steel one at the bottom (on both sides), the bulk of the coin detail now lost. The scabbard is wood covered with black embossed leather. The blade is extremely serviceable, double edged for all its length with a median ridge to stiffen it. |
