Somewhat scruffy example of an early Ottoman mace, 20" long. All iron construction with some brass inlay to shaft and head. This is the earliest known form of a classic Turkish cavalry weapon used from the late 14th through to the 18th century. For an illustration of this type of weapon, see the 1980 catalogue of the Belgrade exhibition of Serbian arms and armour, which features much ground-dug material from the battle of Kosovo in 1389. |
