This would have been worn until the amalgamation of Probyn's Horse with the 12th Cavalry in 1922. It would appear to be an other ranks example and was worn on a rectangular white metal plate. Probyn's Horse became King Edward's Own Lancers in 1906, having sported the Prince of Wales title since 1876. It measures just under 4cm high and would appear to be a bazaar casting, as one would expect. The condition is excellent with some minor age/wear distortion. The flat lugs on the reverse are the clue to the piece being a belt plate element. |
