This bayonet, engraved 'A. Funcke & Co (?Nov?) 1868', is a German-made export piece, possibly for the Danish army as they were one of the first European nations to adopt the Remington rolling block rifle, which was first produced in 1867 and adopted by Denmark in about 1868. Other countries used this excellent rifle, notably Egypt. The blade and hilt are both clean. There has been some surface rust to the scabbard, which has now been mostly removed by hand. |
