This ancient regiment first served with the British Army as the 101st and 104th Regiments of the Line, but, more particularly, their immediate derivation stems from the 1st Bengal European Fusiliers of the old East India Company, who transferred to the Queen's service in the style of th 101st of Foot on the extinction of the company. Having been recruited largely in Southern Ireland, the Royal Munster Fusiliers were disbanded on partition in 1922, which makes this pre-1922. It is a bi-metal (gilding and white metal) badge with blow holes at the back, showing the original method of making these badges using brazing equipment rather than electrical solder, as in the case of modern copies. NB: The photo is slightly out of focus and should show a rather splendid Bengal tiger above the regimental name. |
