This is the long pattern of frog for this sword. The other shorter and fatter pattern incorporated a horseshoe pouch. This particular example is maker marked and dated 1916 and has what appear to be regimental markings stamped into it. These frogs are quite rare, this particular one being found in an armoury in Jordan, probably Amman. There is some oil/sweat staining to the leatherwork and the strapwork is a little cracked and worn. However, overall it is not a bad example, with the leather being still soft and pliable. The zinc finish on the buckle is more or less intact, with a little rust spotting here and there and the roller still runs free. |
