This is the long pattern of frog for this sword. The other shorter and fatter pattern incorporated a horseshoe pouch. This particular example is dated (very faintly) 1918, with 1944 stamped above it, together with what appear to be regimental marks. These frogs are quite rare, this particular one being found in an armoury in Jordan, probably Amman. The trooper in question has scratched his initials on the back of the frog (ABJH?) and there is some privately organised punch decoration around the edge of the frog. The leather on this example is somewhat dried out and one of the support elements for the scabbard on the bottom loop is now missing. The stitching on this bottom loop is seriously a/f on one side. The leather strapwork is dried and cracked. The zinc finish on the buckle is largely intact, but there is some old surface rust and the roller is missing. |
