Title Schmidt-Rubin rifle bayonet, 1931 model
Nationality Swiss
Period c 1930s
Sold

This bayonet was for the later carbine versions of 1931 and 1942. This was the straight pull bolt action rifle with a ten-round magazine. The cartridge was a 7.5mm rimless variety. These bayonets, like the rifles, were beautifully made.

This is a later example (ie nearer 1942 than 1931), with both mounts and blade being made of stainless steel, the scabbard of mild steel, and the grips of beechwood. It has a double-edged blade, rather like the English long Lee Enfield, sharpened on both edges. It has a Swiss ordnance mark, in the form of a cross punched into the crossguard, and the maker's name, Elsener Schweyz, punched into the forte at the base of the blade.

Its condition is excellent, with perhaps 50% of the original blued and blacked finish on the scabbard. It has the original leather tag for the frog.

The parcel has arrived - at the time you indicated.

The sword lives up to expectations and looks even better than on the website. The detail and etching is superb.

Thanks so much for your help and the extra information.

My husband LOVED his North Africa escape map - I had it professionally framed - it's beautiful.
