This is a comparatively rare WW1 bayonet, as the Belgian army was fairly small, only some 80,000 men at the beginning of the war. There are some marks to the crossguard, possibly a serial number for the rifle, and the letter C (for the 3rd line infantry regiment). There is also a tiny 'N' in a square punched on each edge of the blade at the forte. This slightly scruffy example has walnut grips, but no scabbard, hence the price. The blade has been sharpened a little crudely, perhaps in the field on a grindstone. |
