Title Slade-Wallace belt & buckle (white metal)
Nationality British
Period c 1890
Sold

This is the typical Slade-Wallace buff leather belt, marked on the reverse '4th E.LANC.' and '1st V.B.L.' Clearly this is of Boer War vintage or slightly earlier. The volunteer battalions who served in the Boer War may well have worn this white metal buckle, the line regiments wearing the ordinary brass variety.

The buckle itself is in excellent condition for its age. The leatherwork is a bit scruffy and dirty, but all the stitching is intact and one of the metal keepers has been replaced with a brass one, the other one being white metal.

...acquiring this bayonet has completely changed my way of thinking on collecting bayonets. I have become extremely fond of the bayonet... Thanking you once again for the very professional way in which you handled the money [going to the wrong account] problem.
