Disbanded in 1922 on the partition of Ireland, the SIY served with distinction in WW1. These titles were worn on the shoulder to indicate the unit, particularly important after the collar dogs were abandoned in 1916: if the man had lost his cap and was a casualty, next to his dog tags, this was the only indication of his unit. Its condition is excellent, both copper lugs showing a nice brazed finish at their base. |
