This badge is of die-struck gilding metal with a bronze finish (39mm high). It would have been worn on the khaki field tunic and there would have been a pair, one on either side of the collar. The SY was first raised in 1794, disbanded in 1848 and later raised again in 1901. It amalgamated with the Sussex Yeomanry in 1922, forming two batteries of field guns as part of a four-battery unit, the 98th (Surrey & Sussex Yeomanry) Brigade, RFA. It served with distinction in both world wars. Its condition is ex-stores. |
