Title 18th Royal Irish Regiment officer's waist belt clasp
Nationality British
Period c 1855-1918
Sold

This pattern was worn throughout the period as the 18th Foot were one of the regiments whose numbers never changed. There is a version with the 18 under the harp. These buckles replaced the old shoulder belt plates of Crimea vintage and earlier and were worn on the buff leather belt in the field and the gold bullion belt for dress duties.

The mounts on both sides of the buckle have essentially lost all their gilding, which remains on the stipple background of the centre at any rate. There is some distortion to the belt fittings on either side.

Just a short note to let you know that I have collected the Police fur cap this morning from the Post Office. I am really happy with it, and for sure I will give a thumbs-up to your service. This was the first item I ever bought from you, and I hope it will not be the last.
