Title 2nd Life Guards? officer's belt plate
Nationality British
Period c 1798
Sold

Nice copper gilt example with (rarely found) maker's mark 'R.JOHNSTON 68 ST. JAMES'S ST.'. Perhaps this is an undress belt plate for this regiment as one would expect something of greater magnificence for full dress. It is commonly accepted as Life Guards, but I will endeavour to confirm this.

The gilding is in excellent shape, approximately 98% finish remains with some minor abbrasions to the surface.

I wanted to thank you for the perfect service that you did selling and packing the swords. Everything worked perfect. At the airport I had no troubles at all, the airline took the package without been astonished at all.
